CLUB RULES & ETIQUETTE

Open Play & Challenging

Open Play & Challenging

Open Play & Challenging

Most sessions are open play. To challenge for a table, wait for a natural break between points or games, place your blade on the side of the table, and tell the players you would like to play next.

Warm up & Match Format

Open Play & Challenging

Open Play & Challenging

  • Players at each table get 3 minutes for warm-ups before match play starts.
  • Standard matches are best of 5 (or best of 3 during busy periods) with 11-point games.
  • The winner generally stays at the table and the next challenger takes the losing player’s place. If you’d like extra practice, you may ask your opponent to practice with you for up to 15 minutes before giving the table to the next challenger.

Practice & Learning

Court Rotation & Time Management

If you’re practicing with a stronger player, feel free to ask questions — most members are happy to help. Expect lots of quick coaching tips during rallies; table tennis involves small technical cues, so take feedback one step at a time and enjoy learning.

During busy nights please be mindful of others waiting:

  • Keep matches moving and be ready when it’s your turn.
  • If the club is crowded, consider shortening matches (e.g., best of 3) so more players get a

chance to play.

  • If you’re finishing a long practice block, let others know so they can plan their play.

Equipment & Balls

Equipment & Balls

  • We use 40+ mm 3-star white or orange balls and follow USATT rules and guidelines as closely as possible.
  • Most players bring their own paddles; we also have a small supply of club paddles available to borrow.

Safety & Respect

Equipment & Balls

  • Play safely — watch the floor for stray balls, and avoid risky dives in crowded areas.
  • Treat fellow players with respect. No abusive language or unruly behavior. Disputes should be handled calmly or referred to a coach or club organizer.

Cleanliness & Care

  • Please help pick up stray balls and return any borrowed paddles when you’re done.
  • Treat club equipment with care — report any damage to a club organizer.
